Governor Josh Shapiro’s Closing Statement in Tonight’s Gubernatorial Debate as Delivered

HARRISBURG, PA – Tonight, Governor Josh Shapiro concluded his decisive victory in this gubernatorial debate by reminding the people of Pennsylvania that as long as he is Governor, he will continue to fight and deliver for our Commonwealth every single day. From cutting taxes and creating jobs, to funding law enforcement and investing in our kids’ futures, Governor Shapiro has been a Governor for all Pennsylvanians — and tonight, he reiterated his commitment to bringing people together to get stuff done and move our Commonwealth forward.

Below is Governor Shapiro’s closing statement in tonight’s debate, as delivered:

“I believe every Pennsylvanian should have the freedom to chart their own course and the opportunity to succeed. Four years ago I was sworn in on a stack of bibles. I was not given a magic wand that day to solve every problem, but I was given a unique opportunity as the 48th Governor to help solve problems, to help bring people together, and get stuff done.

“I see it every day as I crisscross Pennsylvania. I see it with the farmer, the dairy farmer, who now has a lifetime of opportunity ahead of them because we landed the Chobani deal and increased dairy production by 30 percent. I see it in the apprentice who pulled me aside and told me how proud he was of his job and his ability now to be able to buy a truck. I see it with the excited teacher who got a student teacher stipend and is now teaching here in our Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

“I’m proud of what we’ve gotten done together. I’m mindful that we have a lot more work to do — and tonight, I respectfully ask you for your vote for another term as your governor.”
