After Governor Josh Shapiro’s Resounding Victory, Pennsylvania Leaders Across Our Commonwealth Look Forward to Progress in Harrisburg

Governor Shapiro is ready to continue to build progress in Harrisburg with a Democratic trifecta while Pennsylvania’s new Representatives put a check on Trump’s chaos, cruelty, and corruption

PENNSYLVANIA – After Governor Josh Shapiro’s resounding victory last night, Pennsylvania leaders are looking forward to continuing to build progress for our Commonwealth. Governor Josh Shapiro has shown up, listened, and gotten stuff done for communities across the Commonwealth — and will continue to do so in his second term.

Pennsylvanians sided with Governor Shapiro’s agenda, from electing the Governor’s four endorsed Congressional candidates and giving Democrats a majority in Congress, to electing a historic Democratic State Senate and sending more leaders to Harrisburg who will fight for Pennsylvanians every day. From supporting our Democratic Congressional candidates and local legislative candidates, to investing in and building a strong Pennsylvania Democratic Party, Governor Shapiro led the fight to flip the House this November, put a check on Donald Trump’s agenda, and move our Commonwealth forward in Harrisburg.

See below what Pennsylvanians are saying about Governor Shapiro’s resounding victory:

Senate Majority Leader Jay Costa: “We got a clear mandate. The governor has his mandate to be able to advance this Commonwealth.”

State Senator Vincent Hughes: “We’ve been on a march to the majority since 2018 and with the voters on our side, we have arrived at it this year. Finally, the progress working families have been crying out for can be delivered in Harrisburg. We’re anxious to get to work with Governor Josh Shapiro, who was re-elected, and our colleagues in the House, who have expanded their majority.”

Speaker Joanna McClinton: “The few hundred bills, every term since I’ve had the gavel, that have never been addressed, that have never had a hearing, that have never been called up to vote in a committee will finally get the light of day.”

House Majority Leader Matt Bradford: “While we all thought the biggest news of the day might be a Governor winning by 20 plus points in a time of tremendous tribalization in our politics, the fact that we also stand here with a Senate Democratic majority for the first time in some of our lifetimes is a hell of a compliment to the leadership of Governor Shapiro. […] Your leadership, your messaging, your resources, your willingness to extend yourself, not just for our House majority, which I’m very proud of what we were able to accomplish. But we recognize breaking through in the Senate and breaking through the obstruction that we’ve all had to deal with for the last four years, is truly historic.”

Pennsylvania Democratic Party Chair Eugene DePasquale: “Tonight, Pennsylvanians made history — putting an end to decades of Republicans standing in the way of progress for our Commonwealth and electing a Democratic trifecta that’s ready to get to work on Day One and work with Governor Shapiro to deliver for working people in Harrisburg by raising the minimum wage, codifying protections for reproductive rights, and implementing policies to make housing more affordable.”
