ICYMI: Lt. Governor Austin Davis on Winning Big this November, Growing Our Economy, and Delivering Results for Erie County

ERIE, PA Yesterday, Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis joined this week’s episode of Inside Erie Politics on Erie News Now to discuss the stakes of the midterm elections and how he and Governor Shapiro continue to deliver results for Pennsylvanians all across the Commonwealth.

From driving historic investments to our public schools and creating ladders of opportunity to strengthening our economy and putting money back into people’s pockets, Lt. Governor Davis and Governor Josh Shapiro are fighting and delivering for Pennsylvanians to have the tools they need to get ahead.

Lt. Governor Davis highlighted how the Shapiro-Davis Administration’s record of driving down costs stands in stark contrast to the GOP ticket as Stacy Garrity runs on Donald Trump’s reckless economic agenda — increasing prices on everything from groceries to gas and hurting Pennsylvania families.

See below for key excerpts from Lt. Governor Davis’ conversation, and watch the full interview here.

Question: If the Shapiro-Davis Administration wins another term, what’s the top priorities moving forward here?

Austin Davis: We want to continue to build on the things that we’ve been able to do [such as] making an economy that works for everyone. I’m really proud of the fact that recently Pennsylvania was cited as the only state in the northeast United States with an economy that continues to grow, really despite some of the chaos that you see coming out of Washington D.C. Since we’ve been in office, we’ve created over 23,000 new jobs here in the Commonwealth and attracted billions of dollars in economic activity. We want to continue to build on that — continue to build on the work we’ve done as it relates to public education. We’ve made historic investments in our public education system, and we have driven violent crime and gun violence…We want to make sure that Pennsylvanians have every opportunity to succeed and to live the American dream right here in Pennsylvania.

Question: Treasurer Garrity goes around the state, she was recently here in Erie, and says that Pennsylvania ranks 38th in the country economically. What’s your response to that?

Austin Davis: I think the contrast could not be clearer in this election. Recently, Pennsylvania was cited as the only economy in the northeast United States that continues to grow. I think you have seen that the strategy that the Governor and I have employed is working here in Pennsylvania. We’ve attracted billions of dollars of economic investment, created over 23,000 new jobs, and the reality is, Treasurer Garrity doesn’t offer a plan to bring down costs or create jobs in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. She is only interested in perpetuating Donald Trump’s economic agenda, which is going to continue to increase costs on everyday Pennsylvanians, and we’re working to reduce costs every single day.

Question: The cost of living right now and trying to bring that down, it’s still a major issue for all Pennsylvanians here, and probably something that they’re going to go to the polls and vote on. It’s at the very top of their minds. What’s your message to them?

Austin Davis: I think you continue to do what Governor Shapiro and I have been doing by making sure we are reducing taxes to put more money back in folks’ pockets to make sure that working families have every opportunity to succeed. We have seen Governor Shapiro has stood up continuously to utility companies who seek to increase energy costs here in Pennsylvania. It’s going to take leaders with a real vision to continue to hold bad actors accountable and to make sure that government is living within its means, and that’s what we’ve done every single day that we’ve been in office. And I wish we had better partners in Washington to help us in those endeavors…Governor Shapiro and I are going to keep doing everything we can to make life more affordable for everyday Pennsylvanians.
