Meanwhile, it keeps becoming clearer that Pennsylvanians can’t trust Stacy Garrity to stand up for working people

PENNSYLVANIA – Governor Josh Shapiro and Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis have made it clear from Day One: they will always stand up for Pennsylvania workers and continue to protect the union way of life in our Commonwealth. Meanwhile, Stacy Garrity is showing the opposite as she proudly touts endorsements from groups that want to make Pennsylvania a right to work state.

From expanding apprenticeships and investing in workforce training, to defending workers’ rights and creating pathways to good-paying jobs — Governor Shapiro and Lt. Governor Davis are committed to making sure working people have the freedom to chart their own course and the opportunity to succeed in Pennsylvania.

Stacy Garrity, on the other hand, just cannot be trusted to have Pennsylvania workers’ backs — having repeatedly opposed workforce development investments, proudly touted an endorsement from a right to work group, and accepted campaign contributions from corrupt executives who stole from their workers.

Today, Lt. Governor Davis and labor leaders underscored the Shapiro-Davis record of delivering results for the men and women of organized labor at the United Steelworkers midterm election kick off rally.  

“Pennsylvania workers have worked hard for their rights and for their wages. I know this as the proud son of a union bus driver and the grandson of a steelworker. I know what a good-paying union job can do for a family,” said Lt. Governor Austin Davis. “I can’t say the same for our opponents in this election. Stacy Garrity can’t be trusted to have the backs of Pennsylvania workers. Just earlier this month, she proudly touted an endorsement from a group that wants to make Pennsylvania a right to work state. She’s turned her back on workers here in Pittsburgh and across this Commonwealth — and brothers and sisters, that’s unacceptable. The contrast could not be clearer in this election.”

“Elections determine who sits at the table making decisions about our jobs, our wages, our pensions, our healthcare, our safety, our communities. Elections determine whether working people have champions like some of the folks we’ll hear from today, or obstacles,” said Roxanne Brown, International President of United Steelworkers. “[Austin Davis] is someone who has Pittsburgh deep in his roots, and because he does, it guides the work that he does every single day on behalf of the families and working people here in the Commonwealth because he stands up and fights back for us every single day. We were proud and are proud to endorse him and Governor Shapiro for the next Lieutenant Governor and Governor of the state of Pennsylvania.”

“United Steelworkers know better than anyone. The union has always understood power: power at the shop, power at the bargaining table, power in the community, and power across the ballot box. [The] United Steelworkers represents workers and industries that keep this country moving, and our union’s national presence here in Pittsburgh is a source of pride for the entire region,” said John Galuska, President Allegheny-Fayette Central Labor Council. “Our governor Josh Shapiro is a national leader who wakes up every day thinking about how he can make our community and families great. His running mate, Austin Davis, who is here with us today, grew up right up south here in Pittsburgh and is the son of a union bus driver.”
