MEMO: How Governor Shapiro Won a Historic Reelection Victory and Delivered Wins Up and Down the Ballot
Shapiro for Pennsylvania releases post-election memo detailing Governor Shapiro’s historic midterm success all across Pennsylvania
PENNSYLVANIA – This week, Governor Josh Shapiro delivered resounding victories in Pennsylvania’s midterm elections – from a 22-point victory in his reelection bid for Governor against a two-time statewide election winner, to massive wins for Democrats up and down the ballot all across Pennsylvania. Today, the Shapiro for Pennsylvania campaign released a memo detailing these results and the path to these historic wins.
On Tuesday, over 3 million Pennsylvanians across the Commonwealth overwhelmingly voted for Governor Shapiro for reelection – supporting his record of getting stuff done, his leadership in standing up to Trump and his allies, and his priorities for the future. According to exit polls, Shapiro earned the support of 97% of Democrats, 18% of Republicans, and 65% of Independents.
Governor Shapiro’s resounding victory has put him on track to win by the greatest vote margin in Pennsylvania gubernatorial history, and only the second gubernatorial candidate to win by more than 1 million votes. The Governor is running 24.2 points ahead of the top of the Democratic ticket in 2024 – winning more than twice the number of counties that Harris won in 2024. In this race, Governor Shapiro flipped 11 Pennsylvania counties Donald Trump won in 2024.
Governor Shapiro held Stacy Garrity’s lead in Pennsylvania’s 47 rural counties to a mere 14 points, 57% to 43%. By comparison, Donald Trump carried those same counties by 28 points in 2024, 69% to 31% – a testament to the Governor’s record of showing up in rural Pennsylvania and an ability to win across counties that Democrats often struggle in. The Governor even ran ahead of his own landslide victory in 2022 – expanding his margin of victory across rural, urban, and suburban Pennsylvania communities.
Governor Shapiro continued to show up in rural, suburban, and urban communities on the campaign trail – demonstrating a continued commitment to fighting for every vote and a unique ability to build a broad coalition, including from voters Democrats have lost. The Governor won 11 counties Donald Trump won just 2 years ago – including 7 counties that voted for Trump in 2016, 2020, and 2024, and exit polls show Shapiro won 92% of Black voters, 69% of Latino voters, and 53% of voters without a college degree.
