NEWS: Pennsylvania Professional Firefighters Association Endorses Josh Shapiro for Governor

PENNSYLVANIA – Today, the Pennsylvania Professional Firefighters Association – representing over 7,000 career professional Fire Fighters, Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics across Pennsylvania – endorsed Attorney General Josh Shapiro.

“I am humbled and honored to have the support of the Pennsylvania Professional Firefighters Association, and as Governor, I will always fight for the brave men and women who keep our communities safe,” Attorney General Josh Shapiro. “As Attorney General, I have always stood with Pennsylvania workers – fighting for good-paying, union jobs and standing up to attacks on their bargaining rights. I am immensely grateful for PPFFA’s enforcement, and I look forward to working together to continue fighting for them and the communities they serve.”

“As Professional Paid Firefighters we provide a critical public service that is instrumental to keeping our communities safe,” said Bob Brooks, President of the Pennsylvania Professional Fire Fighters Association. “We are neighbors, little league coaches, and valued members of our communities – and Josh Shapiro and Austin Davis know our worth to this Commonwealth. We proudly endorse their ticket because they are one of us. Josh and Austin are our brothers, and we will be with them in this campaign and on this journey.”

As Governor, Josh Shapiro will always stand with the hard working men and women of the PPFFA. Shapiro is steadfast in his commitment to protecting Act 111 and Pennsylvania firefighters’ collective bargaining rights. In a Shapiro administration, PPFFA will always have a seat at the table – especially when it comes to critical fire-related issues and working to improve their retirement securities and working conditions.

Throughout his career, Josh has taken on the powerful and well-connected, and stood up for Pennsylvania workers and defended their rights. In 2019, he helped resolve the UPMC-Highmark crisis, protecting access to health care for 1.9 million Western Pennsylvanians. Throughout the pandemic, Josh held employers accountable who broke the law, including nursing homes administrators who falsified staffing records and left staff and residents in unsafe conditions, and he has cracked down on worker misclassification to ensure workers get the benefits they’ve earned.

In 2021, Shapiro took on the Commonwealth’s largest construction company when they ripped off their employees, winning more than $20 million in restitution for Pennsylvania workers, and led a coalition of nine Attorneys General to protect tipped workers and ensure they could keep their hard-earned tips.

Since launching his campaign in October, a strong coalition of working men and women have supported Josh and his vision for the Commonwealth, and he’s been endorsed by major labor organizations like the SEIU PA State Council, the Pennsylvania Conference of Teamsters, Pennsylvania AFL-CIO, AFSCME Council 13, the Pennsylvania Amalgamated Transit Union, the EAS Carpenters, PSEA, Pennsylvania State Council of Sheet Metal Workers, PASNAP, and UFCW 1776.
