PENNSYLVANIA – To mark the 61st anniversary of the Voting Rights Act, Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis released a video statement underscoring the importance of Pennsylvanians — and Americans — using our power to protect the right to vote and defend our democracy.
As Donald Trump and his enablers in Washington continue to spew election conspiracies and attack voting rights, Governor Shapiro and Lt. Governor Davis have been clear: They will always stand up to protect our democracy and the fundamental right to vote for all eligible Pennsylvanians.

“The ability to vote in free and fair elections is a cornerstone of our democracy here in America, but Donald Trump and his enablers are doing everything they can to tilt the scales in their favor.
“Just this year, the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act, one of the most consequential pieces of civil rights legislation in our nation’s history that has protected the voices of Black and brown Americans in our elections.
“This comes as Donald Trump pushes baseless conspiracy theories about the integrity of our nation’s elections.
“Donald Trump can try to change history all he wants, but here in Pennsylvania, we know the truth.
“Governor Shapiro and I always have and always will stand up to protect the will of the voters in this Commonwealth, and give a voice to the voices that have historically been left out of the conversation.
“But the work falls on each of us to show up this November — to show up at the ballot box and remind Donald Trump that it’s We The People that decides who leads our nation, and we’re going to do everything we can to keep it that way. Let’s work.”
